Day 93 of 100 Days

It’s always weird on Easter weekend, because every day of this weekend feels like a Sunday to me. It always used to be the busiest weekend of the calendar in hospitality, because in the bars it was like having three consecutive Saturday nights. Sundays were always the busiest and the most fun, possibly because everyone was looking forward to a four-day week. I love this time of year though, because early spring is such a positive time of year, having just come out of the winter.

100 Hours, 140 conversations! I feel like I've hit another milestone, and really want to hit 150 conversations by the end of my 100 Days of Volunteering, because it would cap it off nicely.

I’m in my seventh month volunteering with Shout now, and it is definitely a role that you need to do on a regular basis in order to stay sharp. It really takes practise to actively listen, and you can’t really do this role half-heartedly – if you’re not feeling like you’re in the right frame of mind, you’re better-off not doing it at all. I decided to take my shift in the kitchen while my partner read our son his bedtime stories and had the footy on in the background tonight. It's also nice because I sit with the radiator directly behind me and it's a bit chilly at the mo. I started with the tail end of Leicester v Man City (Man City won 2-0) and then I had Arsenal v Liverpool (Liverpool won 3-0). This shift was a much better shift than my last one, I think because I was in a really good mood and I felt really ready for it. With my last shift, I'd come off of having a two week break, and it was so hard to get into it - which is possibly why I found the conversations so hard. My supervisor was really good tonight too. He popped in and out and checked-in on me just to say hi and let me know he was there if I needed him. He made a point of saying that he was leaving me to it though because I was doing a good job. I really appreciated that, and it spurred me on even more.
