Day 69 of 100 Days

Wednesday, 10th March 2021

In the last week, it suddenly feels like it’s gotten really busy, and I’m starting to wonder if I’ve bitten off more than I can chew. What’s getting difficult is not the actual volunteer work but writing it up in the evenings when I’ve finished. There’s also the small bits of design work which don’t take long but add up when you do a lot of it. I think it will start to quieten down post-DLAG birthday event…

What: Auction Listings
Organisation: Dons Local Action Group

Today, I spent what felt like a looong time listing auction items and writing descriptions for the auction that is taking place in 10 days’ time for the DLAG one year anniversary. The listings deadline is approaching really quickly, but we’ve still got more prizes coming in and it’s quite overwhelming because it’s all really last-minute. In an ideal world, we’d have an extra week on top of what we’ve got, but as it is, we have a couple of days. I feel like we’re going to raise a lot of money with this auction though, so it will really be worth it.

What: Two Zoom Calls
Organisation: Only A Pavement Away

Today, I got to chat to my friend Karen twice on two different Zoom calls with two different organisations. The first was with the fabulous retailer that I hinted at a few weeks ago but didn’t want to say who……… Wilko! Our meeting was with the Head of CSR of Wilko, a guy called Sid, and I have to say I took to him immediately. He’s really straightforward (our budget isn’t what it was because… Covid) but so super nice (I really want to help you in any way we can so we’ll see what we can do). We outlined the Life Skills Hub project, and it looks as though Wilko are going to help us with some starter kits for the OAPA members who have been newly-housed and trained in the Life Skills Hub. I felt really good after the conversation and I think Wilko will be a really great partner. Wilko is my Room of Requirement. I can quite happily browse around Wilko and shop for all my home cleaning things, as well as random stuff like kettle descalers and ironing water. I’m starting to sound sad now, so I’ll stop there…

Our second conversation was a follow-up on yesterday’s conversation about the fundraiser, because we got cut off by Zoom at 40 minutes. For that very reason we did this on Microsoft Teams.

In other news, I’ve been assigned a pen pal with Volunteering Matters! Lady A lives in Wrexham, and I’m planning on penning my first note this weekend. I’m looking forward to going back to the analogue and using my Parker fountain pen (it wouldn’t feel right typing it) and hopefully she’ll be able to read my writing!
