Day 21 of 100 Days

Today, I worked with two charities, Transforming Autism Project and Only A Pavement Away. My day was also broken up by the final session of a training course I’ve been on since November – the Incredible Years Parenting Programme, which is designed to help parents of children on the autism spectrum who have language delays. I’ve been on a few of these courses, usually with my son in tow, but this one was completely on Zoom. I’m relieved to have finished to be honest, because I was beginning to see a bit of repetition from previous courses. It’s also really challenging on Zoom – I now understand how students feel when trying to learn online in a setting which should be in person. It must be incredibly frustrating for them.

I was back to OAPA again today! I do really love the feeling of progress, and it feels like we’re moving at a pace now. Karen and I had a quick catch-up this morning on how we’re getting on with our marketing and comms calendar which is shaping-up really well. I also took some time later on to download some social media stats from our December projects. We saw some great engagement because we had a lot of content going out and the #ServeOurSoup project meant we were able to post a lot of follower-generated content which is very shareable. Social media can be quite difficult to manage when you’re a volunteer-run charity because it’s so time-consuming and you have to be really reactive – it also helps if you actually like it. It’s especially important when talking to supporters, because a lot of the time, it’s the only medium they use to interact with you. If you ignore them you’re making it easy for them to go and support another cause (and we all have many causes we can support).

On the third Thursday of each month, we have our Transforming Autism Project monthly Zoom. This is where we catch-up on what’s happening with the charity and divvy out tasks if there is anything that needs to be done. It’s also where we get to meet any new team members. Today was a pretty quick meeting, because we all saw one another last Thursday to talk about the fundraising walk taking place in March. Earlier, I had made a start on the March Into March Welcome Pack which will be given to all fundraisers taking part in the walk. We’re aiming to have everything ready by the end of next week so we can launch in February, and there's a few of us working on various aspects such as a logo.

I can hardly believe we’re nearing the end of January already. Last year passed pretty quickly, albeit in a bit of a haze where everyday merged into the next to create the longest week ever. With this 100 day challenge though, I’m finding that because I’m doing something different every day, it’s feeling like every day is a new chapter. And I like that.
